While employed by RCSO he worked his way up through the ranks ending up as the Division Commander overseeing the Special Operations Division (K-9 Unit, Crime Suppression Unit, Housing Unit, Gang Unit, Marine Patrol, SMaRT Unit, and until 2012 it included the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Unit, Hit & Run Unit, Motorcycle Traffic Unit, and the DUI Task Force).
Randy has requested that the following be put into his bio:
“In 2011 my wife, Wendy, was diagnosed with breast cancer. During our year long battle with the disease I had dealings with some of the Foundation members firsthand. They kept a constant check on us and always had a few words of encouragement. When some of the guys on the Sheriff’s office threw a spaghetti dinner benefit to assist with some of the rising medical bills not covered by insurance some of the first people there to help were members of the Foundation. Wendy wasn’t able to win her battle and passed away September 2012, but we both spoke on occasion before she passed about the graciousness, anonymity, and the thoughtfulness that the Foundation bestowed upon us as well as many other CSRA Officers, their families, as well as the actual individual agencies. In December of 2013 when I was asked by Mike Cardenaz to become a member of the Foundation Board there was never a second thought on my part. I was truly honored at the opportunity to help carry out the vision of JD’s family and be a part of such a great organization and group of people.
